Santa Margalida

Santa Margarita is located in the northeast of Mallorca and is one of the last villages you drive through, before you get to Alcudia. After Santa Margarita towards planning extends uninhabited area which is popular with cyclists. Here one lives from agriculture and handicrafts, which is a long tradition.
Santa Margarita is one of the well-known and popular seaside resort of Can Picafort, which can be reached quickly.
Here, tourism has taken hold in the marketplace and the village is a popular place in the shade to watch the goings in peace. The place has a contemplative tradition and yet modern. Many roads have been renovated and a few years ago the estate was opened Galmés i Ribot, whose wine can be enjoyed in the oldest bar in town.

History

Old grave stones and inscriptions testify, therefore, the Santa Margarita was inhabited in Roman times. Later there were also Arabs. To Santa Margarita and the image of the Holy Margalida many myths and legends, which the community has given its name.
The parish church was built in 1232, reflecting the wealth of the village.
The establishment of a community was historically occupied in the first years after the Reconquista. The ancient inscriptions and grave stones, however, have pointed out that the place was already inhabited in Roman times, under the name Hero. Later, the Arabs were here the large estate Abenmaaxbar.
