Capdepera

Capdepera is the easternmost town on the Levante region of the island.
The town lies in a coastal, north-eastern plain of the Levant. There are cliffs, numerous shallow bays and long sandy beaches. Capdepera is famous for its basketry.
Now attracts tourists mainly from the time of castle wars of conquest.

History


Capdepera was conquered by King James I by a ruse. The Arabs besieged at this time the neighboring island of Menorca. The king had many torches and campfire spark to simulate the siege of Minorca. These fell for the ruse and signed tribute to the king. In the 13th Century, the son of the Conqueror destroyed Moorish fortress and ordered to return to the founding of the town Capdepera.
